DESCRIPTION

For COPD patients and individuals with other pulmonary conditions, controlling pursed-lip breathing during exhalation is critically important. This technique creates a pressure gradient in the airways, ensuring the lungs are emptied physiologically correctly and preventing over-inflation caused by collapsing airways. However, for patients with advanced disease who rely on mechanical ventilation with constant pressure during exhalation (PEEP/EPAP), maintaining this gradient becomes challenging. While some ventilators on the market automatically adjust PEEP pressure, the exhalation phase remains constant and lacks the dynamic profile needed for optimal lung emptying.

The innovative and patented PLBV® algorithm in the eva ventilator by pulmedix addresses this issue by shaping the pressure gradient during exhalation to mimic the natural effects of pursed-lip breathing. This breakthrough ensures efficient exhalation, reduces strain on respiratory muscles, and prevents lung hyperinflation. When combined with the Trigger, the PLBV® algorithm optimizes the entire respiratory cycle, offering patients a more natural and effective ventilation experience.
